Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a fee for using volunteerkansas.org?

The use of volunteerkansas.org is free of charge for volunteers and organizations. We just want to promote volunteerism, plain and simple.

How do I create a profile?

That’s a great question. We’ve tried to streamline the process for you by only asking for the most relevant information. Volunteer Kansas has created a series of easy-to-use videos to guide you through the process. Just click on the How To tab at the top of the page.

How do I create an Organization?
We’ve tried to make it as simple as possible. To view a video that will teach you how, click on the How To tab at the top of the page.

How do I know the Organizations on Volunteer Kansas are legitimate?
Every Organization cooperating with Volunteer Kansas must undergo a review process before coming on board. We only work with established, reputable and well-known Organizations. An ongoing review process helps us assure high-quality exchanges between Organizations and Volunteers.

Am I committing to anything by registering with Volunteer Kansas?
Absolutely not. By signing up, you’re making yourself available as a potential Volunteer for Organizations that have needs that match your profile and preferences. That’s all. We just match you to the Organization. It’s up to you and the Organization to work out the details of your involvement.

Will Volunteer Kansas share my information with anyone without my consent?
No. When you register with Volunteer Kansas, you are simply agreeing to have information about your qualifications and interests made available to potential matching Organizations. We will not share your information for advertising or any other purposes. We might ask your permission to use your story for a testimonial to help recruit Volunteers, but we won’t publish anything without your written consent.

Does Volunteer Kansas conduct background checks?
No. The organization with which you are matched may require a background check, but they will coordinate directly with you.

Can an Organization be a Volunteer?
No, not at this time. This is a community-driven site, and we certainly want to create an atmosphere of openness. Let us know if this is important to you, and if we get enough interest in this feature, we will see about adding it to a future release.

What types of Opportunities are available on Volunteer Kansas?

Part of our mission is to provide a wide range of Opportunities to fit many skills and interests. Please refer to the registration form for a listing of types. Also, if you think we are missing something, please let us know.

How come when I search for an opportunity I can't search for another opportunity in a different category right away?
You actually can. We have implemented a search technique that remembers your last search.  If you would like to perform a new search entirely, just clear all fields where there is input and put the drop-down options back to their defaults. This will clear the search and allow you to start over!

How do I find an Opportunity?
We’re glad you asked. We have provided dozens of Opportunities, so you’re sure to find one that best fits you. Volunteer Kansas has created a series of easy-to-use videos that are available by clicking on the How To tab at the top of the page. This should help you find a perfect match.

What if I want to remove my listing from the registry?
If you decide you want to leave the Volunteer Kansas system for any reason, just go to your account page and follow the instructions. Please answer the questions about your reason for leaving. It will help us maintain a high-quality program.
