The Flint Hills Volunteer Center, located in Manhattan Ks, serves as a clearinghouse for all things related to volunteerism and provides a strong network for organizations in the area. We offer a wide range of resources for volunteers of all ages. The Flint Hills Volunteer Center also has several Signature Programs.
.RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). RSVP is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and over. Volunteers use the skills and talents they’ve learned over the years, or they develop new ones while serving in a variety of volunteer activities within our community.
.Schools of Hope is dedicated to providing quality academic mentors that make an influential difference in a child’s life. The program’s volunteers provide an invaluable resource of literacy intervention for K-3 students in USD 383. The ability to read is a powerful predictor of later academic achievement and success in life. Research shows that a student who is not at least moderately successful in reading by the end of third grade is unlikely to graduate high school.
.Student Volunteers represent various majors at Kansas State University and the Manhattan Technical College. Volunteer hours are needed for academic scholarships and class requirements. Over 150 students have been provided opportunities to volunteer.
.Corporate Volunteers are allowed flex time to donate an hour to volunteering.
.Veterans in Service is a new signature program where we will recruit and track volunteer hours of our active duty and retired veterans.
.Youth Volunteer Corps utilizes team-based, service-learning volunteer opportunities for young people as a conduit to teach workplace readiness skills, enhance academic performance, inspire a lifetime commitment to service, and address the needs of recipient nonprofit organizations. Recruitment targets youth ages 11 to 18, regardless of experience, race, socioeconomic status, gender, or ability, with a special emphasis on reaching those who are rarely asked to volunteer.
