About Us

Our Mission: Empowering people with disabilities ILRC is committed to helping people with all kinds of disabilities physical, mental and developmental to live as independently as possible in the homes and communities of their choice. We do this in a variety of ways, guided by our five core services: Information and assistance Peer support Advocacy Independent living skills training De-institutionalization Also, we are a resource for families, friends, caregivers and others concerned about the needs of people with disabilities. As a center for independent living, we are a consumer-directed organization. More than half of ILRCs board of directors and staff members are people with disabilities themselves. ILRC works with our consumers, rather than for them and to help find solutions to fit their particular needs. We believe people with disabilities are entitled to the same rights, options and control over their lives as everyone else. ILRC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The services we provide are made possible through funding from state and federal sources, grants, fundraising events and private donations. We do not receive funding from the United Way. ILRC is a member of: Kansas Association of Centers for Independent Living (KACIL) State Independent Living Centers of Kansas (SILCK) National Centers for Independent Living (NCIL) Kansas Nonprofit Chamber of Service
