About Us

The Jefferson County Historical Society is an educational and historical organization that maintains 10 historical buildings (Old Jefferson Town) in the city of Oskaloosa, Kansas.Three of the 10 buildings are on the Kansas Historical Registry. Old Jefferson Town in open for visitors on the weekends during the summer months. There are numerous displays of artifacts, pictures, and memorabilia throughout the season. All buildings are in need of cleaning, repairs, and must be preserved for future use. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the grounds, buildings, setting up displays, assessing articles that have been donated, and plan/schedule events to raise money to help pay the expenses (electricity, gas, water, sewer, trash pick-up, mowing the 10 acre site, etc).
