About Us

The Kansas Humane Society is a non-profit private organization caring for 16,000 pets annually and funded by private donations and service fees. Not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States. Volunteers are vital at the Kansas Humane Society. As a private non-profit agency, we rely on the assistance of caring and hard-working volunteers in all of our programs throughout the year. Volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of our pets and our staff. We do require that each of our volunteers attend an orientation session, animal handling training and follow-up interview before beginning volunteer work. We must receive your completed volunteer application to reserve your space at the orientation. We welcome children, ages 9 and up, to volunteer, as long as they are accompanied at all times by a parent/guardian. Minors ages 16-17 are welcome to come on their own with a signed release form by a parent/guardian. Any volunteer under the age of 16 must be with an adult at all times. If you are a parent/child team interested in volunteering we do ask that each of you fill out an application form.
