Role(s): transmission operator, concession operator, greeter
Requirements: enjoy opera and people
Description: Hello there,

The Murdock is seeking volunteers for New York City’s Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD productions. This is an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series that brings the world’s most talented stars to the screen. With close-up camera work and surround sound, the Live in HD experience is like having front row seats at the Met! There are FOUR remaining productions this spring. Volunteers will have the opportunity to watch the productions for free (tickets $22) and will enjoy a free lunch. Of course, there’s no such thing as free lunch: We’re looking for A) two people to run concessions, B) two people to operate the live transmission, and C) two greeters/floaters.

Volunteers will get a chance to know the theater and are welcome to submit their own projects and ideas. Volunteering at the Murdock is a great way to move into running your own film series, putting on a play, coordinating events, or bringing your favorite bands to town.

MAR 10 Met Live in HD: Gioachino Rossini's Semiramide
Sat 11:55 AM

MAR 31 Met Live in HD: Mozart's Così fan tutte
Sat 11:55 AM

APR 14 Met Live in HD: Giuseppe Verdi's Luisa Miller
Sat 11:30 AM

APR 28 Met Live in HD: Jules Massenet's Cendrillon
Sat 11:55 AM

Volunteers for the live transmission will need to be trained (the morning of the first opera is enough) and ideally will be available for all four of this season’s remaining operas. It’s very simple to learn, but the volunteers for this position should not be flustered by buttons, knobs, cords, etc. Transmission operators will need to arrive 2-1/2 hours before the broadcast. (We have to get started early to make sure the satellite is working and preempt any tech issues. But bring a book and make yourself a coffee — there will be down time in between.)

Concession and greeter volunteers should arrive 1 hour prior.

All ages, kids too, are welcome for any position.

Volunteers should probably love music and performance art because you’ll get to see a lot of it.
