Simply complete the volunteer registration form. Once completed, you will be ready to browse all our volunteer opportunities and apply to volunteer for the ones you like best! You may also find this form when you click the REGISTER button within any of the volunteer opportunities listed on the website.
Is there a fee for using this site?
The use of volunteerkansas.org is free of charge for volunteers and charities. We just want to promote volunteerism, plain and simple.
How do I know the charities on Volunteer Kansas are legitimate?
Every charity cooperating with Volunteer Kansas must undergo a review process before coming on board. We only work with established, reputable, and well-known organizations. An ongoing review process helps us assure high-quality exchanges between charities and volunteers.
Am I committing to anything by registering as a volunteer?
Absolutely not. By registering, you have the ability to choose from volunteer opportunities that match your interests. You are not involuntarily matched by us.
Does Volunteer Kansas conduct background checks?
No. The charity that you volunteer with may require a background check, but they will coordinate that directly with you. If a background check is required, it will be noted within the volunteer opportunity.
What types of opportunities are available on VolunteerKansas.org?
Part of our mission is to provide a wide range of opportunities to fit many skills and interests. You can search for volunteer opportunities by categories that interest you, as well as keywords and phrases. Also, if you think we are missing something, please let us know.
Answers for Charities
How do we register our charity?
Once you complete the FREE charity registration form, we are notified. We will review your information and confirm or decline your registration based on our review process. If approved, we will set up an appointment with you to go through our charity onboarding training. In that training, you will be given a password to combine with your email, in order to log in to your charity dashboard.
Am I committing to anything by registering as a charity?
Until your charity is approved, you aren’t committed to anything. Your obligation begins once your organization is vetted and approved to participate on the site. Your major responsibilities will be:
- Listing your volunteer opportunities on the site
- Approving/declining individuals who apply to volunteer for your opportunities
- Following up with the volunteers to complete your internal volunteer application process
Can a charity be a volunteer?
No, not at this time. This is a community-driven site, and we certainly want to create an atmosphere of openness. Let us know if this is important to you, and if we get enough interest in this feature, we will see about adding it to a future release.
How does Volunteer Kansas vet applying charities?
We only work with established, reputable, and well-known organizations, therefore every charity cooperating with Volunteer Kansas must undergo a review process before coming on board. Ongoing communication helps us assure high-quality exchanges between charities and volunteers.
Once our charity is approved, how do we add a volunteer opportunity?
Sign in to your charity’s account. From your charity dashboard you will complete the volunteer opportunity form. Make sure you have the following information handy:
- An image that is no less than 200 px wide that represents the type of work the volunteer will be doing
- An inviting and thorough description of what the volunteer will be doing and the skills needed
- The address where the volunteer opportunity will take place
- Dates/times/shifts the volunteer opportunity is available
- Supporting documents (.pdf or .doc) such as your internal volunteer application, parking passes, release forms, etc.
Do we get a chance to vet the volunteers who apply for our volunteer opportunity?
Yes. Once a person applies to volunteer for one of your volunteer opportunities, you will receive an email from us letting you know that you have a volunteer to approve/decline. You will be able to view their profile information and decide if you want to approve them (move them along in your application process) or decline them. If you approve them, we ask that you communicate with them directly as soon as possible to complete your internal application process. Once you approve them through the Volunteer Kansas website, they will automatically be notified of their approval and told YOU will be contacting them with further instructions.
What if our charity no longers wishes to be part of Volunteer Kansas?
This would make us sad, but if for any reason your charity wishes to no longer be a part of our website, please contact us and let us know the name of your charity, the email address associated with your account, and the reason you are leaving.
